In the bid to answer unemployment in the province, online job site JobsDB.com and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) recently forged a partnership which aims to assist Cebu-based businesses with manpower solutions through co-branding.
JobsDB.com will manage the organization’s career website by providing the link to a summary of available positions in CCCI’s member-businesses.
“We recognize the help that an online job database can do for the organization. Since our mission is to spearhead the growth of Cebu-based businesses to global competitiveness, we start by ensuring we can find competitive individuals that could contribute to the advancement of our member companies,” says Mr. Ed Limtingco, CCCI Vice President - MDD.
Careers related to service, administration, accounting, sales, and technical support, among others, are the currently available jobs in Cebu-based companies. Cebuanos should take advantage of these opportunities to help lessen the number of jobless individuals in the country.
However, employers, even in Cebu, have recently been expressing their concern that jobseekers do not match the demanded skills of the employers. Despite the vast opportunities that the job market offers, many are still unemployed. The lack of skills of applicants is what hinders companies from hiring them.
JobsDB Philippines, Inc. Managing Director Jayjay Viray says that “employers need applicants who can contribute to the success and growth of their company amidst the crisis”.
“Being selective with applicants is naturally a company’s strategy to acquire a workforce that is most beneficial to it. Companies set standards that applicants must meet to ensure the quality of work an employee will deliver,” says Jayjay.
These standards are carried out by the company’s human resource division. A single job vacancy can have as much as 200 applicants, but the HR could still face the problem of finding qualified individuals in this number.
“Locally-based businesses also tackle HR problems. The HR, responsible for interviews, reference checks, placement, and selection of applicants, also handles administrative support functions so they might not have the resources to tackle all the HR issues, that’s the reason why we partnered with CCCI, we want to assist their members in streamlining their recruitment processes,” says Jayjay.
Seeking help from other agencies that provide human resource solutions can be an advantage to organizations.
“Our members are assured of gaining competent employees while our HR division can concentrate more on retention, training, learning, and development of their current workforce. That’s why we value this partnership with JobsDB,” says Mr. Limtingco. “Aside from this, the partnership is also our way of assisting Cebuano jobseekers of landing a job.”
“The global economic crisis may have caused problems in the business sector but the market is full of individuals who can help companies overcome these problems. Organizations, like CCCI, must utilize all their resources to find these individuals,” Jayjay says. |
