IT’S ABOUT TIME
It’s time to take the Test of Time!
Get to know yourself better. Answer the following questions with an honest YES or NO:
- Are the days a drag for you?
- Do you have days when you spend so much time working but at the end of the day,
you hardly accomplished anything?
- Do you feel like you’re always running out of time in accomplishing your daily tasks?
- Are you always late for work or school?
- Do you feel you don’t have time to go to the gym?
- Are you panicking because you’re still single and your time is running out?
- Do you wish you could have more time with your family and friends?
- Do you feel you’ve wasted your life?
If you answered more YES than NO, then, this is the time for you to learn to use the most of your time. It’s a great start.
But before that, there’s something we’ll have to seriously get rid off first. It’s the P-word. In his book, Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life, Chuck Swindoll refers to the P-word as the professional thief that steals your time and hits you the moment you relax your defenses. It steals your surge of motivation and whispers the magic word manana. Can you guess the word? Yep! PROCRASTINATION.
Here is the Procrastinator’s Creed:
I believe that if anything is worth doing, it would have been done already.
I shall never move quickly except to avoid more work and find excuses.
I will never rush into a job without a lifetime of consideration.
I firmly believe that tomorrow holds the possibility for new technologies, astounding discoveries and a reprieve from my obligations.
I truly believe that all deadlines are unreasonable regardless of the amount of time given.
I shall never forget that the probability of a miracle though infinitesimally small is not exactly zero.
If at first I don’t succeed, there’s always next year.
I shall always decide not to decide unless of course I decide to change my mind.
I shall always begin, start, initiate, take the first step – when I get around to it.
I know that work cycle is not plan-start-finish but it is wait-plan and plan.
Procrastination used to be my best friend both as a student and a working yuppie. I was unaware that my philosophy was, “Mamaya ka na lang, hindi ka pa naman urgent, eh.” My favorite song was, “May bukas pa ang iyong buhay.” If we’re in the same boat, then you will understand that these are the things that make you feel guilty. And then, you realize the flabs are starting to show. Your not-so-excellent-performance is being noticed. Mornings are becoming more and more dragging. There’s just too much unnecessary stress. The rotten-sluggish feeling starts to grow on you and BAM! You realize, you’re 30 years old and where did all the time go?! What happened to all those years when you wanted to do so many things and you never got around to doing them. Next thing you know you’re 40 and it’s so much tougher doing those stretches.
What if Thomas Edison procrastinated and put off his invention of the light bulb? Or Neil Armstrong felt it wasn’t time yet to go to the moon? Or Walt Disney said, “I’d just imagine a little later on.” I believe without a doubt that the light bulb, the trip to the moon and maybe Disneyland would have still become reality but other people would be raised to see them come true.
Procrastination is something we need to say goodbye to. Or else we’ll never get around to doing the things we’re supposed to do. To seeing our dreams fulfilled. To living our lives to the fullest.
So let me ask you. What have you been putting off for tomorrow?
